Choosing the right wire is crucial for the internal wiring of electronic devices, home appliances, and industrial control equipment. UL1569 Wire is a common type of Appliance Wiring Material (AWM) wire certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), belonging to the single-core thermoplastic insulated wire category under the UL758 standard. With its PVC insulation characteristics of a rated voltage of 300V and a maximum temperature resistance of 105°C, it is widely used in scenarios requiring reliable, flame-retardant, and cost-effective internal connections.

Basic Specifications and Characteristics of UL1569 Wire

UL1569 Wire typically uses solid or stranded copper conductors (bare copper or tin-plated copper) with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation.

Its core parameters are as follows:

  • Rated Voltage: 300V

  • Rated Temperature: Maximum 105℃ (some versions cover 80℃ or 90℃; flexible installation approximately -5℃ to +105℃, fixed installation approximately -20℃ to +105℃)

  • Insulation Thickness: Nominal approx. 0.38–0.41 mm (approx. 1/64 inch)

  • Conductor Size: Commonly from approximately 26AWG to 2AWG or thicker (actual range varies slightly depending on the manufacturer)

  • Flame Retardant Performance: Passes UL VW-1 vertical burning test and CSA FT1/FT2

  • Other Characteristics: Possesses certain resistance to oil, solvents, acids, and moisture; high insulation resistance; easy to peel and cut; compliant with RoHS and other environmental requirements

UL1569 Wire

Flexible conductor structure; stranded types (such as 7-strand, 16-strand, 26-strand, etc.) offer better flexibility and fatigue resistance, suitable for wiring requiring bending; solid types are lower in cost and have more stable resistance. A wide range of colors (black, red, white, yellow, blue, green, brown, gray, etc.) facilitate circuit identification. Many products also meet CSA AWM I A/B requirements, achieving dual certification in the North American market.

These characteristics make them particularly suitable for internal wiring in confined spaces, moderate temperatures, and low voltage environments, rather than outdoor or high-mechanical-stress applications.

Typical Applications

The interiors of household appliances and electronic devices The interior of low-power electronic devices Industrial, high-voltage equipment

UL1569 Wire has the same voltage rating as UL1007 Wire, but a higher temperature rating, as shown in the table. UL1007 Wire UL1007 wire is rated for use in 80°C environments and is compliant with UL1569 Wire for use in higher temperature applications. UL1569 Wire is more suitable for tight wiring applications with limited space because it has a lower voltage, thinner insulation and smaller outer diameter than UL1015 Wire. UL1015 Wire is more appropriate for applications where higher voltage withstand or increased mechanical protection is desired. In making such a choice, operating temperature, voltage, space, bending requirements and cost must be comprehensively considered.

Typical application cases

Wiring Inside Household Appliances

UL1569 Wire is widely used for control boards, heating element connections, and sensor leads of products like air conditioners, electric ovens, rice cookers, hair dryers, and electric water heaters. The 105℃ temperature resistance can withstand local temperature rises inside the equipment, and the flame-retardant properties of PVC insulation improve the overall safety level. The smaller OD also makes wiring easier in tight enclosures .

Industrial Automation & Transformers

UL1569 Wire is also used for internal wiring of some control cabinets, relays and transformer coils. It is not the first choice for high-current main circuits, but its temperature resistance and flame-retardant properties provide reliable protection for auxiliary control and signal circuits.

Lighting and LED Systems

16-22 AWG UL1569 Wire is typically used for LED luminaires, driver power supplies, and internal connections within light housings. Available in a variety of colors for easy identification of positive and negative terminals and signal wires. The VW-1 flame retardancy meets fire safety requirements for luminaires, and the flexible stranded conductor makes it easier to install in tight luminaire housings.

ELECTRICAL SWITCHGEAR AND EQUIPMENT

Point-to-point wiring is used in computer power supplies, monitors, communication equipment, instruments, switchgear, and control panels. UL1569 Wire is small in diameter, easy to strip, suitable for high density wiring harness assembly and meets the UL certification requirements for equipment exported to North America.

In practical applications, it is often combined with wire harness processing: cutting as needed, crimping terminals, and sleeve protection to form a complete wire harness. When selecting, pay attention to confirming the manufacturer's UL file number, whether it is tin-plated, the precise AWG and strand count, and whether additional oil resistance or low-temperature performance is required.

Selection and Usage Considerations

Prioritize products with clear UL/CSA markings and VW-1 designation, and verify that the rated temperature and voltage match the actual operating conditions.

Recommended bending radius: Approximately 10 times the outer diameter for flexible applications, and approximately 5 times the outer diameter for fixed installations.

Not suitable for harsh environments such as direct outdoor exposure, strong mechanical abrasion, or prolonged oil immersion; a protective sleeve or alternative specifications should be used if necessary.

Summary

UL1569 wire is a common choice for internal wiring of electronic equipment and domestic appliances with medium specifications, reliable flame retardancy and temperature resistance and cost-effectiveness overall. Knowing the difference between the two and choosing the right type for your specific temperature, voltage and space needs can significantly improve product safety and production efficiency. For real projects, it is recommended to check the latest UL standards and supplier technical documents for compliance and performance matching.
