Characteristics of ISO Standard Automotive Wire
Material Composition
ISO standard automotive wire is made from materials that conduct electricity well and are bendable. Copper is often used because it carries electricity very well. The material choice affects how the wire works and lasts in cars.
Insulation Properties
Insulation is important for ISO standard automotive wire. It stops electric shocks and prevents wires from touching each other wrongly. PVC and XLPE are common insulation types. PVC resists chemicals and scratches. XLPE handles heat better and is stronger.
Temperature and Environmental Resistance
ISO standard automotive wire needs to handle very hot or cold weather. It works well between -40°C to +125°C, so it stays reliable in any climate. This wire also resists water, oil, and chemicals, making it good for many car uses.
For general circuit wiring and trailer wiring, GPT wire is ideal. this standard wall wire offers excellent weather resistance. It performs well in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C and is suitable for a variety of automotive conditions.
TWP wire is a lightweight, thin-walled wire rated up to 105°C that is durable and versatile for a variety of applications.
HDT wire is a thick-walled wire designed for heavy applications. It can withstand the usual physical wear on the surface of the wiring, with a set temperature of up to 85°F.
GXL wires have a thin-walled design and are lightweight and heat resistant up to 125ºC.
SXL wire has a standard wall with excellent heat and abrasion resistance. It works effectively in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125ºC.
TXL wire stands out with its ultra-thin walls, high heat resistance and flexibility. It is especially beneficial in tight spaces and at low temperatures, where it maintains its performance over a temperature range of -40°C to 125ºC.


The most commonly used insulation materials for automotive applications Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE). PVC insulation is often heated and then extruded through a dye on the stranding.
PVC can be melted with a heat source to change its form. Cross-linked insulation is created by extruding the material through a tube under heat and pressure to change the molecules of the insulation to another state.
The main difference between the two are the temperature ranges. ISO standard automotive wire can withstand much higher temperatures. Regardless of insulation material, both wires share a voltage rating of 50V. There are three main wires for both insulations, all of which are primary/general use wires.
